Nourish Oil Ingredient Spotlight: Lavender
Lavender has a long history of use in medicine, particularly as a soothing anti-stress and anti-anxiety ally, and she is a favorite in our household.
Lavender can support your health in many ways:
- Improve sleep quality
- Ease inflammatory skin conditions like sunburn, eczema, psoriasis, and even small scrapes and cuts
- Ease other painful inflammatory conditions such as menstrual cramps, migraine headaches, and muscle tension
- Support healthy digestion so that you absorb more nutrients from the food that you eat
- Manage stress, anxiety, and depression
This simple syrup recipe is so easy to make and provides you with another way to include the health benefits of lavender and honey in your day to day. You'll come back to this recipe again and again and can even incorporate other favorite flowers like chamomile and calendula.
You first want to make a tea with the lavender and water by adding both to a small saucepan and bringing the water to just a boil. Then turn the heat off, cover with a lid and let it steep for 30-40 minutes.
Strain the lavender out through a fine mesh sieve.
Then add your honey and stir until it fully melts and incorporates with the lavender tea. The liquid should still be warm enough.
Adding vanilla extract is optional but it does add a little extra zing that makes the syrup that much better, add it in and stir everything together.
Add it to a bottle, jar or airtight container and keep in the fridge to use on anything from food to warm beverages, and even cocktails. This is a great way to re-use your 8oz Mind Mist refill bottle.
We love it as a supportive mocktail and it's especially delicious as a cocktail, particularly during the holidays which can be stressful for some. We know you'll love this easy and tasty syrup.
